Shawn Only: Supporter of Economic Growth and Safe Housing Standards in NE Arkansas

Shawn Only officially filed to run for State Representative of District 53, covering portions of Jonesboro, Black Oak, Brookland, Caraway, Lake City and Monette. On Tuesday, November 6, 2019, Only filed to run for office with the Arkansas Secretary of State at the state Capitol building in Little Rock.

Only has been invested in building community in each state that she has lived for more than 20 years. She is the proud mother of three young adult daughters, 2 who are currently college students, and her oldest who finished graduate school in May 2019. Only has been happily married to her husband Ron for 31 years.

“I welcome the opportunity to step up and make sure our community’s voice is heard. The prospect of representing folks who have been disenfranchised and criminalized as a result of the gross housing laws is something I will proudly fight for in the Legislature in Little Rock,” said Shawn Only. “I am thankful to my husband, children, family, church, and dear friends for their encouragement to step out on faith and principle. Jonesboro is the hub for many surrounding towns, and we have to make sure it’s a home not just for students but for graduates and doctors. That includes doctors being graduated from NYIT as well as out of state students. Craighead County should be a destination for visitors given its proximity to Memphis.”

Only supports instituting fair real estate laws, gainful employment opportunities, strengthening our public schools, gun sense laws, and building rural broadband to ensure the next generation can call Craighead County home.

She has been the Managing Partner of a private medical practice since 2012. Only worked in major law firms nationally as a legal secretary/legal assistant for over 20 years. Her Bachelor’s Degree is from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX.

Only recently served as a Community Outreach Lead with Moms Demand Action. Since arriving in Arkansas, she has committed to be the change she wishes to see in her community. She previously served as a Precinct Chair and on the Executive Committee for The Democratic Party in Williamson and Travis County, Tx. Only has also served as an Election Judge for several election cycles, served as a Delegate to county and state Democratic conventions and served on committees for county and state conventions. Only also served as a Trustee for Main Street.
