Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

The Democratic Party of Craighead County (DPCC) is dedicated to working towards a progressive, harassment-free experience for all members, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, origin, religion, class, or other marginalized identity. We do not tolerate harassment, whether of DPCC members or of our guests. We encourage DPCC members and event attendees to hold one another accountable to the Code of Conduct, and to take the perspectives of others seriously when a disagreement arises. We expect all members and guests to follow these standards at all events, including discussions hosted in our online spaces. Ethical conduct is not a passive process, but requires conscious choices and decisions, and the exercise of good judgement, consistent with the values of DPCC.

Harassment

The DPCC’s definition of harassment may not align with legal definitions of harassment. Harassment includes: verbal comments or displayed images that harmfully reinforce structures of oppression (related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, geographic origin, or class); deliberate intimidation; stalking; body policing (including gender policing); unwelcome photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. DPCC guests are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. Harassment does not include: respectful disagreement or critique in good faith. DPCC is an intersectional, progressive political group, and we welcome and appreciate vigorous debate and the discussion of controversial ideas, but expect all members to engage thoughtfully and without aggression or yelling to prevent creating toxic environments.

Photographs and recordings

Always ask before taking any photographs or recordings that will include people’s faces. Please obtain explicit permission of everyone appearing in any photo or recording prior to sharing anywhere online. You are responsible for clearing any and all rights and permissions for any use you make of any photographs or recordings. If any individual states that they do not wish to be photographed or recorded, disregarding their wishes will result in consequences, including revoking photography/recording privileges and up to expulsion from events.

Weapons

Do not bring weapons to DPCC meetings.

Cell Phones

Phones are welcome because we may use our phones in activities, but all events and meetings are silent-mode zones. Text communication is acceptable as long as the phone is silent. Please leave the room if you must take a call.

Reporting Issues

If a DPCC member or event guest engages in harassing behavior in a DPCC space, either online or offline, toward you or someone else, please notify the Executive Committee immediately at craigheaddems@gmail.com.
